Passion flower because the monks who came across it in the Americas saw symbols of the Passion (mistreatment and killing) of Christ. Not the other kind of passion, regrettably.
Seems a negative interpretation of a beautiful flower, but they were Spanish monks and like that.
In the southern US they grow wild and are called maypops.
