Edward Arthur Walton (1860-1922) est un peintre écossais. Spécialiste des paysages et des portraits, il est lié à l'école de peinture de Düsseldorf.
Edward Arthur Walton (1860-1922) was a Scottish painter of landscapes and portraits, associated with the Düsseldorf school of painting.
The portrait depicts Cecile Walton (1892–1956), the artist's oldest daughter aged 13, presumably in Walton's studio in his house at 7 Belford Park, Edinburgh where he had moved in 1904. Cecile is depicted in the painting looking at a portfolio with a pencil in her hand. This reflects her interest in art from an early age and her childhood mania for drawing which eventually led to her becoming a successful artist and part of the Edinburgh art scene herself, exhibiting with 'The Edinburgh Group' from 1919.
